  • Lot #420 - 1892 PCGS PR-64+DCAM CAC
  • Gold $5-Liberty Head Half Eagle
  • Mintage: 95. 2 graded PR-64 DCAM+, 5 higher at PCGS. The mint had achieved extraordinary levels of technical competency in striking gold proofs by the 1890s such that the intense cameo contrast seen here as two factors to thank: the mint's expertise in creating exquisite die work and very limited production runs that did not tax the capabilities of the individually hand-prepared dies. Thus, this coin offers the expected staggering gold-on-black contrast one expects. Thick frost shows virtually no signs of contact on either portrait and the grade seems constrained only by extremely limited hairlining in the fields.

  • Lot #332 - 1856 PCGS MS-62
  • Hammer: $750
  • Gold $2.50-Liberty Head Quarter Eagle
  • Multiple die clashes could not prevent razor sharpness, including precisely defined stars and feathers. Golden vibrancy seems almost too nice for MS-62, but closer examination reveals trivial storage friction on both sides. Don't let that stop you! Bid until there's nothing left but crumbs!

  • Lot #515 - 1875-CC PCGS MS-62
  • Hammer: $12,250
  • Gold $20-Liberty Head Double Eagle
  • Rustic Holidays Collection. One of the commonly available Carson City double-eagles, the plentiful emission does not preclude occasional semi-prooflike examples such as this. Exceptionally flashy, the fields, especially on the obverse, show evidence of die repolishing. A handful of sizable marks are inevitable for the grade but their effect is slightly diminished by the gorgeous royal gold color.
