Lot #224 - China - 1999 12oz gold Lunar Year of the Rabbit 1000 yuan - NGC PR-69 Ultra Cameo with certificate
World Coins-China
KM#1235 (prev. KM#Y1031). SN: 00016 on the included COA. Mintage: 99, which is much lower as a collector coin than the many other bullion-oriented coins issued by the Shanghai mint. The 70 millimeter format of .999 pure gold is certified to include 11.9878 ounces net content. It is almost inconceivable that such a coin could ever be certified as PR-70, i.e. "perfect" for such a huge format numismatic item and the NGC PR-69 UCAM grade.

Newcomb-8 "small date", early die-state as can be inferred by exceptionally strong, bold dentils along both borders. Cataloger's grade: [UNC/recolored], and that disclaimer only because the coloration doesn't really match what one expects of a Randall hoard example (which this almost certainly is). Nevertheless, those early dies imparted absolutely needle-sharp details throughout as well as noticeable cartwheel luster, overlaid with violet-mahogany iridescence.
