Description: Gavin "John" Rose Collection. 6 graded MS-65 BN, zero higher at PCGS. Of course, confusion introduced by the way a grading service handles "population reports" broken down by color designation and variety can be misleading (or perhaps misguided?), but suffice it to say that PCGS has seen precious few 1795 large-cents at the gem brown level, of any variety.

The eager collector of early copper will not fail to note a delicate glossy patina layering over the entire surface, which is completely in line with the exacting, loving care given by past owners of this remarkable gem. It is quite likely that a thin layer of Blue Ribbon (or similar preservative) has helped maintain the deft touch of brick red seen throughout while protecting the centuries old surface from further oxidation. A singular tick rests on the lower Liberty cap, just next to the point at which the pole enters, and along with an additional tiny tick well-hidden in the upper hair, represents the sole mentionable point of contact. As might be identifiable on circulation-strike copper, a small, curving strike-through beneath "TE" on the reverse would provide an ideal provenance marker for future generations.
