Lot #: Go
Lot Title: (1837-1842) $2.50 C Bechtler, 70 grains, 20 carats PCGS MS-62
Lot Number: 277
Description: SBMK Collection. Kagin-13, R.6. 5 graded MS-62, 2 higher at PCGS. Bechtler coinage is rare in basically all ways but the K-13 territorial quarter-eagle comes to the market on special occasions. Yellow-gold underpinnings support fairly widespread rouge and olive-gold accents, presumably induced by storage and not wear. While the specification side displays the beginning of some die cracks, the denomination side was taken off of a relatively fresh die that features polish lines throughout, suggesting some middle die-state for the striking.
