Lot Title: 1783 Washington Draped Copper Restrike, Engrailed PCGS Proof UNC details/cleaned
Lot Number: 885
Description: Adamant Collection. Baker-3, "Washington & Independence". Struck with the edge type that has the engrailed design centered. These were the creation of London coin dealer W. S. Lincoln who repurposed dies used for the original strikings of circa 1820. Tiny rust dots peppered over the portrait speak to the age of the original dies that required extensive repolishing, but that is just part of the charm of these popular and historic pieces. Limited hairlines evidently led to the PCGS "cleaned" disclaimer yet the coin still offers intriguing properties, from the mahogany-orange fields to the hazy turquoise-green patina strewn into the periphery.
