Description: Alfy Keller Collection. Sheldon-61, R.4+. "R" in LIBERTY has a distinct placement over the top of the curl, it's left serif placed about a third left and the right serif dangling just over the right of the curl. This is not an "official" attribution marker but coincides with your favorite cataloger's experience. The inside berry left of ONE droops down, and on the "N" of CENT, a small dot defect appears at the junction of the left stand and the slant. For this unusually early die-state, the rim break normally seen between 8:00 and 9:00 of the obverse is absent, making this an evidently "rare" example worthy of inspection. An honest assessment of grade would not be complete without noting that the surface is more granular than expected of VF-30, but NGC may well have recognized the scarcity of this S-61 from such early dies.
