Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1860-S PCGS VG-8
Lot Number: 193
Description: M. Diatom Collection. Mintage: 2,600. A miserly emission created this significant scarcity within the 3-dollar series, this being the unusual date within the denomination for which many examples seen are well worn. Indeed, perusing the population reports suggest that only about five have ever reached mint-state status (not that the present VG-8 is in any danger of ever being mistaken as uncirculated!). Indeed, the entire coin shows the effects of heavy, honest wear such that the major elements are only boldly outlined, with the princess crown showing just a little of the internal details above the hairline. That said, this is premier color for the type, incorporating carrot-gold and ashy hues that couldn't be more ideal.
