Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1860 PCGS MS-61
Lot Number: 192
Description: M. Diatom Collection. Mintage: 7.036. 16 graded MS-61, 76 higher at PCGS. Struck in the presence of the economic turmoil that preceded the Civil War, the 1860 3-dollar does not survive with a high population in mint-state and ranks among the more difficult emissions in the series. Even those few fortunate enough to warrant a mint-state grade tend to be well abraded, as is the present example, with many micro-ticks noted in the obverse left and reverse fields. The reverse also shows the presence of some unusually deep crimson-gold toning, but the overall impression is of pale golden hue. Rather very sharp overall, there is no lack of definition except perhaps at the very top of Liberty's hair tresses.
