Description: The F. Raphael Collection. A single Whitman folder displays efforts on the part of the consignor to create a nicer run of large cents from 1826 through 1857, with no varieties (e.g., a "date run only"). 1826 through 1837 will solidly grade Good to VG, while 1838 grades F/cleaned and 1839 faces up at Good. Better grades commence with 1840 (F), but 1841, 1842, 1845 and 1846 revert to the G-VG range. Better grades appear for 1843 (VF/dark), 1844 (F), 1847 (XF/microporous), 1852 (VF), 1856 (XF), and 1857 (VF/modest porosity). 32 coin lot.
