Lot #: Go
Lot Title: Five large cents, as described
Lot Number: 160
Description: The F. Raphael Collection. Always-difficult classic head large-cents get representation by a quintet of examples that all have issues, but still provide a nucleus of generally very bold details. They may be quickly indicated as follows: 1808 S-279 (XF/corroded, unexpectedly even obverse but overall doused in typical environmental damage), 1810 S-282 (F/corroded/altered surface, artificially created gloss perhaps helps the eye-appeal a little but much is lost to the low-contrast darkness), 1811 S-287 (VF/corroded, but the corrosion is remarkably even and matte, providing a fairly acceptable appearance), 1813 S-293 (VF/microporosity, obverse shows surprisingly well while the reverse suffers definite effects from the matte texture), and 1814 S-295 "plain 4" (VF/corroded/smoothed, smoothing was actually rather effective and elevates the visual aspect significantly). Five coin lot.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
