Lot Title: 1862-S PCGS MS-62 Gold-CACCAC
Lot Number: 381
Description: Mintage: 67,000. 5 graded MS-62, 2 higher at PCGS. Gavin "John" Rose Collection. The PCGS green-label holder assigns a grade of MS-62 to this coveted scarcity within the Seated Liberty quarter series, and that alone sets to the side any doubts about desirability, as it is an exceedingly elusive coin at the mint-state level. The CAC gold sticker implies that the coin should easily garner upgrade consideration, which would imply Choice BU as the true grade, but excitement needs to be tempered by discovery of light slide marks across the obverse, as well as isolated trivial luster grazes within the fields. Nevertheless, booming luster and bright, frosty beige-white patina will command a lot of attention from specialists who need this coin to plug a mint-state hole in their sets.
