Although not struck in necessarily minuscule quantities, 1847-O becomes a very challenging issues above AU, making this reasonably original steel-gold example a candidate for type purposes. These are usually struck poorly on the reverse, and even this better defined example exhibits soft definition around the shield. A sizable die crack threatens to dispatch AMERICA as a retained cud.
