Description: Vida D. Bertie's Consignment. Sheldon-290 pairs a small-date obverse with a reverse that has the top leaf positioned directly under the final "S" in STATES. While it is properly given a "common" rarity rating, and is probably the easiest of all classic head die-marriages to locate, NO classic head large-cent can be considered anywhere near "common" in mint-state grades, especially with the pleasing quality of surfaces found here. Although the fields show the faintest evidence if environmental effects, the general smoothness almost defies belief, and the design was nicely executed by a commensurate strike. Faint old scratches flow up and down the neck but have faded with time, being virtually invisible at this point.
