Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1811 PCGS, VF-20 BN
Lot Number: 150
Description: Sheldon-287 is easy to identify between the two 1811 Sheldon varieties since it is not the over-dated obverse. Just as a type, a classic-head cent in middle grades represents a considerable challenge, but 1811 examples prove particularly elusive, aside from the numerous examples struck on poor planchet stock that readily corroded over time. Obverse devices are perfectly centered on the flan, and the reverse favors north every so slightly, allowing for fully upraised rims all the way around. We suspect the coin has been "helped" a bit and then expertly recolored, but no matter when the "look" is this nice and consistently toned in deep walnut-brown.
