Lot Title: Civil War Script - 1862 25c North Missouri Railroad Co. Franklin Savings Institution PMG VF-20/tears
Lot Number: 88
Description: Payable directly to the Franklin Savings Institution, these very rare fractional scrip notes were issued for use by the North Missouri Railroad Co., which also operated into the Iowa border beginning in 1851. NMRC was later incorporated into the Wabash Railroad system that operated within a much larger section of the mid-central United States until the 1960s. Very few other examples of the 25-cent notes exist and what sets this one well above others seen is the clearly legible signature: Charles Taussig. The Taussig family was prominent in St. Louis financial circles, and Charles is buried in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
