Description: During the Mexican Revolution, the State of Oaxaca issued its own unique provisional coinage and paper money to combat severe cash shortages, this “gold” 20 pesos being among those issues. These only contain 17.5 percent gold, with silver composing the balance of the coin. Weak strikes are not uncommon, given the stressful nature of their production amid conflict – the obverse of this tough-to-find rarity exhibits both weakness and circulation marks, but not enough to detract from the inherent appeal of this historical issue.
