Description: The Opa Collection. 83 graded MS-64, 83 higher at PCGS. An important and coveted (and somewhat transitional) sub-type, the "large stars" references what is really a (early) die-state for the 1838 dime, examples struck off of refinished dies known for the later, scarcer "small stars". While this example features a fabulous strike, it is not taken off of the earliest dies since a bold clashmark shows on the reverse, the entire design enshrouded with substantive, pearlescent midnight-grey and Navy-blue toning.
