Lot Title: 1837 Capped Bust NGC MS-65
Lot Number: 896
Description: 1 graded MS, 2 higher at NGC. JR-4 in the late die-state has to be the easiest of all four 1837 capped-bust die-marriages to attribute because the huge bisecting obverse die-crack can easily be seen without a loupe, especially at such a high level of preservation. For those wanting verification, notice the low "F" in OF on the reverse. The crack appeared to present no noticeable obstacle to production as the details appear pinpoint sharp, as all thirteen obverse stars gather in virtually ideal delineation. Extensive velvety luster over the silvery surface gets accented by pleasant and not-overly-obtrusive rim toning. The highest grade levels see fewer 1837 bust dimes than seated dimes saved, presumably because citizens at the time would have set back the then-new designs for posterity over the older.
