Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1890 $1 Fr# 348 - PMG GemCU-65
Lot Number: 73
Description: Silken Row Collection. With only some fifty examples known, Fr.348 bears status as the rarest of the 1890s by a long shot. The cataloger has never seen a gem example prior to this remarkable PMG-encapsulated note. Curiously, EPQ status was not included, as would virtually always be the case at the very-choice and higher grade levels, and one can only surmise it is due to subtle handling at the far upper right corner. Nevertheless, the exquisitely accurate ink and quite decent center placement on either side are well indicative of the assigned grade. The vast majority of this Friedberg number is circulated, with combined population reports indicating existence of at most a handful of CU examples -- duplicate grading incidents notwithstanding.
