Description: 53 graded MS-67, 8 graded MS-67 "star", 2 graded MS-67+, zero higher at NGC. The population report places this astounding example just shy of the pinnacle grade for 1878-S, a year which was followed by several years of high quality San Francisco production. This coin might look right at home with those famously well-produced dollars. Both sides exemplify virtually perfect strikes while the cheek and neck appear practically immune from abrasions. A single contact mark crosses the lowest area of the neck while the rest of the surface shows nothing but the most minuscule of bagmarks. Warm toast-orange toning plays up against the rims.
