Lot Title: 1917-D Type 2 ANACS MS-62 FH
Lot Number: 900
Description: T. W. J. Collection. This coin appears to be flat-out undergraded by ANACS, displaying presence that would be right at home in a holder at least two points higher. Gorgeous luster and especially delightful toning play up the eye-appeal, and there is no question about the accuracy of the "full-head" designation. Some collectors suspect these old ANACS small-sized holders to be capable of inducing color, and it's possible that the presence of a few fleeting hairlines limited the original grade, although these are now generally obscured by the intensely attractive indigo, ruby-gold and orange hues. Now, a single linear mark through the eagle's wing remains the most singularly obvious detriment.
