Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1799/8 PCGS VG detail/tooled
Lot Number: 606
Description: Sheldon-188. Glossy ebony-brown surfaces have been burnished to the point that they now appear unusually smooth for a 1799 cent -- the rarest date of the series. A curious scribble of scratches at the temple and above, and on the reverse, the only distraction appears to be a singular void at 6:30. The details are generally fairly bold for the "VG details" assessment by PCGS, and compare favorably to examples at the commercial VG-10 level. Most S-188 examples suffer an anomaly that is also seen here whereby the bottoms of the digits in the date nearly fall off the flan, but LIBERTY shows up boldly and strong beneath the rim.
