Lot Title: Pair of encased postage stamps
Lot Number: 232
Description: First is EP-95a, ex-Danny Arnold and Romisa Collection (9/17-19, 1984). An eagle clutching a snake on the reverse is highly evocative of the Feuchtwanger Hard Times tokens and leads to the popular "Feuchtwanger Strip" name. The cataloger has seen these on very rare occasions, sometimes with damaged mica and/or copper pesting on the decorative backing. This example presents very attractive chocolate patina and very good clarity for the mica window, save a hairline over the left stamp and trivial crazing nearby. Accompanying is EP-35, a classic and very popular 3-cent encased postage stamp that displays modest wear overall. This is the well-known Ayer's Sarsaparilla "to purify the blood" example with a normal, smooth (not ribbed) casing. The stamp shows some creasing as is sometimes the case.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
