Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1869 half-dollar J-751 PCGS PR-61RB
Lot Number: 420
Description: Judd-751, R.7, hails from the "STANDARD SILVER" series, albeit this particular pattern example was struck on a copper planchet, presumably with a reeded edge. (The old green-label PCGS holder has the unwanted effect of completely obscuring the "third side".) As is often the case with copper patterns struck in very low quantities, fully red examples are exceedingly difficult to find and one should expect no more than the well-balanced red-brown combination seen here. Several carbon spots beneath the portrait may have been delicately tooled, and additional, light hairlining in the fields likely assists the grade appraisement.
