Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1829 PCGS AU-58+
Lot Number: 689
Description: Overton-111a is a bit more difficult than average to attribute, but notice a bulge at the upper right curve of the "9" in the date, and on the reverse, a vestige of a recut "A" is just visible in STATES, slightly left of the correct placement. Die-state "a" has seen the dies repolished such that the second and third As on the reverse are filled in, and it is this same die-state that was used to strike an incredible proof example last seen by the cataloger at Long Beach several years ago. THAT proof had the unusual distinction of being struck off of the same well-aged dies that struck this coin. Flowline luster propagates fully through the fields, but the AU-58+ grade is spot-on since this coin shows distinct rub on the cheek, on the bust, and above the eagle's eye. A commercial "UNC" years ago, but properly graded today by PCGS.
