Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1865-S PCGS MS-63
Lot Number: 263
Description: The Mastodon Collection. Potentially an S.S. Brother Jonathan representative (or something of that ilk), the appearance is highly suggestive of a representative from one of the famous shipwrecks that endowed today's collectors with high-grade examples of the 1865-S double-eagle. Speculation aside, the coin stands upon its own merits as a "choice" example. Central design elements appear to be properly defined, but a few stars lack focus, and that certainly must be due to the failing reverse die, which shows peripheral die-cracks.
