Lot Title: 1783 Engrailed Edge Copper Restrike Washington & Independence PR-66+ RB
Lot Number: 499
Description: An 1860 restrike, produced in London by coin dealer W.S. Lincoln, the 1783 proofs were struck off of refinished dies, which themselves were not made until about 1820. This is a remarkable example that retains considerable mirrored texture in the fields, producing a presentation aspect that Colonial collectors could otherwise expect to miss out on. Pinkish copper hues stray mostly through the peripheral area, permitting velvety brown color to consume about half the surface area.
