Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1859 50c BG- 902, and an 1873 25c BG-817, both PCGS MS-64
Lot Number: 86
Description: Joanna H. Fogle Collection. As is the case with many fractional gold pieces, the known rarity of BG-902 has diminished from being considered R.6 "very rare" in the 1990s to being considered just R.4- "scarce" today. Spotty royal gold and a flash of garnet on the reverse summarize the appearance of this "very choice" example. BG-817 has long been known as a more common variety at R.3, and this example, replete with the deeply engraved circular polishing lines on the obverse, is flush with carrot-gold and purplish accents. Two coin lot.
