Lot Title: 1901-O PCGS MS-66
Lot Number: 447
Description: Bradford Pear Collection. 550 graded MS-66, 59 higher at PCGS. Reaching far back beyond the living memory of nearly all collectors alive today, there was a time when the 1901-O was considered very rare, and a paramount key to the series in mint-state grades. It wasn't until bags of Treasury-stored examples emerged that the date was relegated to "common" status. The population report even shows that MS-66 examples, while not exactly falling from trees, tend to be a little elusive, while scarcely a few dozen exist above the "very gem" level. This booming, flashy white example exhibits some evidence of semi-prooflike appeal, as speedy bands of luster stratify through the fields and illuminate the portrait. Despite a lack of major marks, finicky collectors will notice several scattered ticks on the cheek.
