Lot Title: 1896-O PCGS MS-61
Lot Number: 427
Description: Bradford Pear Collection. Common in every single circulated grade, the 1896-O instantly takes on celebrity status at any mint-state level, although the population statistics at both services are not really worthy of being quoted here due to vastly skewed results from resubmissions and upgrade attempts. In addition to a poor survival rate, 1896-O tends to see terrible strikes, and even the present BU example cannot evade broad softness at Liberty's ear and the eagle's breast. Still, at arm's length, the luster is far nicer than typical for the date, leading one to conclude at first glance that the coin could be a point undergraded. Closer examination is required to bring out the scattered ticks, light scrapes and occasional hairlines that suggest excessive bag storage, and therefore lead to the MS-61 grade.
