Description: Bert Davies Collection. 31 in AU-50 and only 48 higher at PCGS. Branch mint gold collectors will be the first to tell you that any coin from the short-lived Charlotte mint is scarce and coins in high grades are nearly unheard of. From an original mintage of just 13,280 coins, only 175 examples are estimated to have survived in all grades, and only 3 of those in Mint State; which, makes this lots PCGS AU-50 example one of the finer examples to survive. Luster plays strongly across wholly original surfaces with minimal distractions. Moderate wear and a weaker strike are all that hold this incredibly scarce coin back from higher grades.
