Description: Zodiac Consignment. Ex-NGC 337302-002 at the same grade. Mintage: 83,000. 3 graded XF-45, 10 higher at PCGS. Ample plumage remains on the reverse despite fifteen points of wear, and the shield lines are all fully raised and delineated. The obverse displays only light, uniform wear, although trifling hairlines flutter randomly within the fields, no doubt the result of limited handling by prior proud owners. The 1872-S is an exceptional rarity within the series within the certified XF - AU grade range, since for some reason, representatives often display problems or issues with "improvements". Not so this modestly lustrous and attractive toned example. No damage, and few contact marks will be noted, the most apparent being a very brief, old scratch beneath the eagle's left (observed) wing.
