Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1872-S PCGS XF details/cleaned
Lot Number: 812
Description: Mintage: 83,000. The limited mintage apparently suffered from extensive melting, as the 1872-S quarter is considered the rarest of the San Francisco issues. Far more often seen in the "AG" to "Good" range, an example with this much detail has to be considered a prize, regardless of so-called "problems". PCGS has opined on the cleaning as too heavy for a straight grade, and the abrasive process was fairly harsh, although an unknown residue has been applied to help disguise underlying textural problems. All in all, the result is a coin that isn't hard on the eyes, although it is a bit strange looking.
