Lot Title: 1801 PCGS AU-58 CACCAC
Lot Number: 745
Description: Zodiac Consignment. Ex-NGC 660905-006, same grade. 3 graded AU-58, 6 higher at PCGS. Logan-McCloskey-2 might best be identified by the exact position of the star on the reverse that points directly into the eagle's beak, as it is one of only two die-marriages for 1801. This exceptional, gem about-uncirculated example features far more white luster than what one expects of an early half-dime, albeit the surfaces have become delicately tinted with lavender-grey. Exquisite detail addresses the expected level of sharpness for a coin so near the mint-state level, and indeed, any "wear" that might be present shows simply as a light touch of friction on the bust, at the shoulder and over a few vertical bars in the shield. Either side displays three or so hairline abrasions of minor note, with nothing to distract from the overall quality.
