Description: Riser Handle Collection. 31 graded AU-58, 28 higher at PCGS. While 1853-D deserves its reputation as the most readily available half-eagle from Dahlonega, "availability" is a relative term, and examples are very rare above AU-58. This appears to be a rather original example, showing suitable, finely frosted matte texture and a healthy portion of mustard gold, surrounded by carrot accents. While typically struck with soft texture on the upper design elements, the eagle displays nicely sculpted feathers in its wings.
