Description: Shawl Consignment. 3 graded MS-64, 5 higher at NGC. Within all silver series, 1901-S commands attention as a key date, and represents a challenge in certified mint-state grades. As can be seen by the noted population reports, NGC considers examples in MS-64 to be very rare, although PCGS has put more than twice as many into mint-states slabs. Finicky collectors will quickly cite a sharp contact point on the temple and a fair number of abrading hairlines on the obverse as areas of contention, but the reverse seems undeniably very choice, with exceedingly sharp details. Mostly brilliant silvery-white with broad swaths of ruby-gold tone.
