Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1866 Rays PCGS MS-64 (shield)
Lot Number: 580
Description: No, this is not Ray's nickel. It is, rather, a very choice example of the inaugural type for 5-cent coins struck on the copper-nickel alloy planchets that gave the mint such a fit, due to its toughness. Those difficulties are evident here as the small die-cracks and other over-polishing anomalies become apparent under a loupe. Only modest luster can be seen for this near-gem example.
