Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1834 PCGS XF-45
Lot Number: 183
Description: McCloskey-A, Breen-6140 "large head" can be identified by close proximity of the "4" in the date to the lower curl, and it is the significantly scarcer subtype for 1834. It is an interesting side note that the "small head" subtype was used to strike proof and prooflike examples, while the "large head" seems to have a "work horse" reputation with only a few prooflike examples seen. Obviously, at the circulated XF-45 level, this delightful, original example presents minimal luster and flash, although a bright halo encircles several obverse stars. A noticeable cut mars the upper reverse, but it is old and nearly toned in with the rest of the patina.
