Description: 112 graded MS-64 RB, 44 higher at NGC. As an absolutely terrific near-gem example of a difficult date in the Indian cent series, this especially lustrous cent features about equal portions of brick red and mellow burgundy-brown overall, ensuring accuracy of the red-brown assessment. Indeed, given the exemplary four diamond strike and smoothly textured surface, one might wonder why a gem grade wouldn't be possible, albeit the surface does seem to benefit from the presence of an astutely light application of Blue Ribbon (or similar preservative). The features are mark-free, while a couple of ticks fall into the lowest field beneath the wreath on the reverse.
