Lot Title: Exonumia - OPIUM 1877-S Trade dollar, "squeeze at top"
Lot Number: 548
Description: Berry Tree Collection. One of the niftiest items, coveted by many collectors, is the so-called "opium dollar", which is essentially a hollowed host dollar that can be opened by pressing a "secret" location, in this case the top of the obverse. Unknown to many collectors is the fact that it actually required two coins to created one opium dollar, and on rare occasions, impossible mules may be found, although this particular example represents as the common 1877-S. Very, very cool and a real prize for today's sale.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
