Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1875-S/CC Trade PCGS MS-63
Lot Number: 544
Description: 10 graded MS-63, seven higher at PCGS. FS-501, while discovered some fifty years ago, remains a scarce Redbook variety that most plainly shows evidence of a remnant "C" to the right of the San Francisco mintmark. Extended spokes of cartwheel luster center over a point off left a bit of the central obverse, and this imparts substantial visual appeal, as does the presence of magenta-orange toning draped over the entire obverse. Some very pretty rainbow hues scatter about the reverse periphery and add to the visual interest. Interestingly, this variety tends to come well struck, as this finely produced example illustrates. Promotion and extensive searching over the years has failed to reveal many "cherry picks" of the variety and a premium quality example brought to market should generate a lot of excitement in any competitive sales venue.
