Lot Title: 1795 2 Leaves BB-21, B-1 NGC AU-55
Lot Number: 528
Description: And I Wonder Collection. Bolender-21 has the lowest curl precisely touching the first star, and a 9-10 berry arrangement on the reverse. While the distinction of being the "most common" flowing hair dollar belongs to the B-5, Bolender-21 is available in sufficient quantity -- relative to the series -- to serve well as a type representative also, given its R.2 rarity estimate. A cleanly struck and well-produced coin, there are no adjustment marks whatsoever to be found for this charming example, suggesting that either the planchet was within tolerance to begin with, or the strike was powerful enough to eradicate any such marks. For sure, it was a well defined specimen as it fell off the dies, since a loupe reveals multiple strands comprising the lowest tresses of hair, and the right stem at the bottom of the wreath terminates in a sharp point. While the luster is muted overall, that is hardly unexpected of a 220 year old dollar, and some subtle, steely lilac accents toward the upper portions catch the eye under ideal lighting conditions.
