Description: 142 graded MS-65, 40 higher at PCGS. A gem nickel of considerable beauty and dramatic visual appeal, the toning jumps out immediately as a factor in the overall desirability. Shimmering ruby-red and ultraviolet accents swing around portions of the highly brilliant chartreuse obverse, with generous burgundy toning evident over the even more brightly illuminated reverse. The second year issues for the buffalo nickel series are all notable for the "transition" in texture between the rugosity of the 1913s and the later dates, as the coarse "feel" of the obverse fields demonstrates here, although the reverse offers surprisingly nice satiny effects.
