Lot Title: 1885 PCGS MS-65
Lot Number: 244
Description: Berry Tree Collection. 47 graded MS-65, 37 higher at PCGS. Instantly recognizable as the undisputed key to a complete collection of Liberty nickels, the 1885 would have notoriety on par with the 1909-S VDB cent and 1893-S Morgan dollar -- if only the series were more popular with collectors. As it stands, one can only guess that any gem representative should retain most of its value against a fluctuating market due to the paucity of high grade examples. In the face of flying, spinning luster, Liberty's cheek conveys a near lack of major contact marks, although some tiny ticks are arranged in curious linear fashion, essentially parallel to some shallow abrading of the upper coronet. Under good light, faint greyish spots may be visible at close viewing proximity. Typically struck and a no-question circulation strike.
