Description: As the "new kid on the block", 5-cent nickels proved challenging for the mint to manufacture with a consistent level of quality, and it is not easy to locate such a well-produced early example as this. All of the details are brought up to a much finer degree than is usually seen, such that even the horizontal lines in the shield are completely delineated, as is each of the rays surrounding the denomination. Strike doubling shows boldly on the date and on IGWT, and careful examination reveals some minor die cracks throughout.
