Lot Title: 1893-O PCGS MS-64
Lot Number: 685
Description: Mintage: 300,000. 87 graded MS-64, 7 higher at PCGS. Every Morgan dollar enthusiast recognizes that the mintmarked issues of 1893 are all keys within the series (and even the Philadelphia emission ranks as a difficult acquisition). Fewer than a third of a million silver dollars were struck in New Orleans that year, the scarcest O-mint production, and high attrition places the issue among the most highly coveted pieces in a complete collection. Here at just the MS-64 grade, a formidable bid will be required to approach a winning level, and at the next grade level, the value approaches approximately $175,000.

1893-O has a reputation for incomplete strikes, and for sure, the present example displays minor softness over Liberty's ear, yet the eagle's breast feathers are rather decently rendered by the die. Roller marks often seen for the date do not appear present here, and subsequent abrasions take the form merely of lengthy linear abrasions scattered through the fields. Again unusual for a New Orleans coin, luster absolutely scintillates with satin beauty and illuminates this blazing white suitably. Assuredly, an infrequent opportunity to place an esteemed key into anyone's high-end silver dollar set!
