Lot Title: 1824/2 PCGS AU-53
Lot Number: 378
Description: Gavin "John" Rose Collection. Browning-1 is the only die-marriage for 1824/2, and features the well-known overdated obverse die. Perusal of any price guide shows that it is a key to a complete bust quarter collection, and although examples are sometimes available in heavily circulated grade, any better preserved example will prove to be a prize to the persistent collector. Dusky velvet-grey patina cloaks this powerfully struck example, layering the obverse in smoky tones while the reverse exhibits silver-peach character. Modest wear consists of light rub on many hair curls, a faint touch of circulation on the bust, and mild flattening of a portion of the eagle's beak and talons.
