Description: Gavin "John" Rose Collection. 3 graded AU-50, 8 higher at PCGS. A trio of uncirculated examples stand at the top of the heap for grade at PCGS, and even at the AU levels, the PCGS population shows a very limited number of 1871-CC dimes available, even if one doesn't believe there ever been resubmissions. For the purposes of tracing the history of this particular desirable Carson City dime, one need note only a delicate snaking hairline scratch over Liberty's left (observed) shoulder. Sharpness might well exceed the assigned AU-50 grade by the slightest margin, but luster modestly lacks vibrancy, perhaps due to splashes of gossamer slate-grey within the fields. Additional hints of butterscotch-gold provide additional interest, although this rarity will hardly suffer a lack of "interest" from our bidders, to be sure.
