Description: 6 graded MS-66, 1 higher at NGC. Animated vibrancy seen throughout elevates the quality of this semi-key early buffalo nickel to very-gem status, according to NGC. The surface shows practically flawless preservation, as it offers lovely arctic-blue and amber-orange hues intermingling about either side. While not necessarily recognized as a great strike-rarity within the series, the 1917-D doesn't often come as exactingly defined as this example, and collectors of the series will be pleased with the way everything except perhaps the very top of the bison's head has been brought up by the dies. A contender for any condition census, as only a single example has ever graded higher at NGC.
