Description: Sheldon-294 distinguishes easily from S-295 by identifying the "crosslet 4" in the date. 1814, along with 1808, is a typical choice for type purposes since all the other dates within the short-lived series are scarcer, and regardless of date, it isn't easy at all to locate an example with a decent planchet. Even this NGC AU-53 displays some shallow pitted patches throughout, although adverse effects are a bit muted by the dark leather-brown patina. The obverse displays near-perfect centering while the reverse appears shifted slightly north.
